Trying new food is one of the best parts of traveling, especially when you’re trying out restaurants that you don’t have back home. It’s exciting to have new experiences, especially with food. It’s so much more than just nourishment from your body. When you have good food, full of flavor, it’s like experiencing a new place for the first time. Here’s our list of the 5 best places to eat in the Woodlands.

Corkscrew BBQ

This is one of the best little barbecue joints in Texas, and you know Texas does BBQ right. This brisket at the Corkscrew is tender and typically lean, and the barbecue sauce is full of Texas flavor. Their turkey often sells out, so make sure and get there early!

The Olive Oil

Taste a little slice of Greece at the Olive Oil. This family owned Greek restaurant is a hidden gem in the Woodlands, and was awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and lively on weekends with live music and even belly dancing! Experience another culture for an evening and get some great food while you’re at it!

Schilleci’s New Orleans Kitchen

Another cultural experience with your meal, this Cajun and Creole restaurant is straight out of New Orleans. The food is full of Louisiana flavor and the service is lively, and the patio (and restaurant its self) is quaint and charming. You’ll definitely want to give this place a try!

Via Emilia Italian Restaurant

Everybody loves a good bowl of spaghetti. Italian food is good comfort food, even when it’s a little warm outside. The food is fresh and doesn’t taste frozen because the owners take pride in what they’re serving. Italian food is their passion and you can taste it in their delicious meals.

Crust Pizza Co.

You can’t go wrong with pizza. Do you even know anybody who doesn’t like pizza? Us either. When you just want to have a low-key afternoon with your family and friends, this is the way to go. The price is reasonable, but the food is way above average.

The Houston Experience

Woodland Lakes is just 30 miles away from the great city of Houston, where there is always something going on! Take some time to have the Houston experience; a real taste of Texas!

Alley Theater is a local favorite, founded over 60 years ago, where you can find shows like A Christmas Carol and the Santaland Diaries. This theater is considered one of Houston’s architectural landmarks, and is one of the few American Theatre companies that assist a company of actors and designers throughout the year.

Bisong Art Gallery hosts several exhibits, book signings, film screenings, and lectures. This intriguing warehouse space is located downtown, in the Warehouse District, and is open to the public. Exhibits include acrylic, oil paintings, mixed media, and hand blown glass, among other art styles. Art lovers are always encouraged to purchase their favorite pieces!

Minutemaidpark

You must stop at Minute Maid Park for a baseball game! It is, after all, America’s favorite pastime. The Houston Astros are killing it this season, bringing the team back to the top in the American League. They even beat the Yankees this week 15 to 0! Aside for the exciting sport, the ballpark has several different restaurants and lounges that are perfect for a night out, or to just grab a drink for happy hour.

Lastly, we strongly suggest taking a tour with Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours. Enjoy some fun in the sun as the weather cools off a bit and a slight fall breeze makes its way into Texas. The Buffalo Bayou Partnership puts together various events throughout the year, and kayak trips are offered once a month. Don’t worry, all equipment is supplied for you!

Petfest in Old Town Spring

We LOVE animals, and this upcoming event is one near and dear to our hearts.

Old Town Spring will be hosting it’s annual Petfest on October 17th and October 18th to help raise awareness for animals’ needs and funds for local rescue groups

What is Petfest?

Petfest is one of the most anticipated annual events each year. Locals and visitors love to play with the animals, as it’s almost therapeutic for most. Who doesn’t love getting free love and affection from something cute and cuddly!

The point of this project is to find forever homes for lonely animals and to raise funds for animal rescue groups. With our help, they are able to continue their mission to help these cuddly babies find homes.

Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival

While October is usually known for the appearance of ghosts and ghouls, and an influx of candy in the supermarkets, we like to do things a little differently in Conroe. We like to reserve a few of those spooky days for our Annual Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival! Come out on October 9th and enjoy some live music and good food! The festival lasts until the 11th, so don’t worry if you can’t make it out right away.

Live Music

There will be plenty of live music playing on three separate stages, a Texas Stage and a Cajun Stage. Music begins Friday at 6 PM, but starts bright an early on Saturday at 11 AM. You can expect to see Parker McCollum, Bayou Roux, Josh Ward, Wayne Toups, and the Casey Donahew Band. There are many other groups scheduled as well, so make sure to check out the lineup!

What To Expect!

Bring the little ones! There will a kid zone just for them, and there will also be several vendors serving food and drinks. Unfortunately, you can’t bring your own alcohol in, but there will be vendors selling beer and wine.

The carnival will begin Thursday and admittance into the area is free until Saturday. Armbands for carnival rides are $15 on Thursday, and $20 on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

There will be arts and crafts vendors, community and educational exhibits, the annual Catfish Pageant, the aforementioned Kid Zone, and a performance stage that feature local dance teams and other community groups and entertainers.

Stay at Woodland Lakes!

Enjoy this little taste of Louisiana with us! Book your stay and take advantage of our affordable rates.

Feel Like a Local at Woodland Lakes

One of the main reasons for travel is to get a chance to experience your new surroundings. Sure, the tourist attractions are fun, but the best part is getting to experience what the locals in the area enjoy. You can’t really get a feel for a new location until you see it the way the natives do.

Concerts in the Park

One of our favorite things to do around here is attend one of the Concerts in the Park. The Concerts in the Park series is seasonal, and hosts a variety of different bands each year. Did we mention it’s FREE? The music starts at 5:30 PM and you are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, for your viewing comfort. You can expect to hear The Spicolis play on September 13th (and yes, you can guess from the name that they are an awesome 80’s rock band.) The following Sunday, September 20th, you can boot-scoot-boogie with Matt Mason. Check out the other Concerts in the Park scheduled for this fall!

Market Street

In Market Street’s Central Park area, you can find various art shows, car shows, musical performances and more. It doesn’t hurt that it’s smack dab in the middle of a shopping center! Enjoy Coffee & Cars every 3rd Saturday of the month, or wait for the Fall Art Show scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd. You can’t miss out on the annual Tree Lighting Event on November 19th. It’s one of our favorite events!

Trick Or Treat!

Halloween is still almost two months away, but Trick or Treat Trail is one of our favorite traditions! (Don’t worry, we’ll remind you about it once it gets closer, but we thought it was worth mentioning now.) On October 25th, take your family out and enjoy an evening of Halloween festivities, including trick-or-treating, vendor booths, costume contests, and more!

Beat this Texas Heat at Woodland Lakes!

We all know Texas is famous for it’s heat, but it sure does feel like this summer is an exceptionally hot one. With the last few days being the 100’s, it’s hard to want to do anything outdoors, however, it’s the perfect weather to visit Conroe Aquatic Center! Have some fun in the sun and splash around with the little ones (or big ones!) and beat this Texas heat!

We know sometimes it’s just easier to stay indoors with the temperatures hit those triple digits. If that’s the case, stay indoors to beat this Texas heat and check out Main Event Entertainment. Their food is delicious and they offer a variety of activities, such as bowling, rock climbing, pool, laser tag, and more! There is definitely something for everyone at this large entertainment center. They even have a great happy hour, with several appetizers and tasty (cold) beverages included.
